Training session for Cornwall Council

January 2017
We were invited to carry out a training session for Elected members following on from our previous design training sessions. The event was split into two workshops on 'Placemaking' and 'Design and Legibility'. We had around 30 attendees including some case officers.


The Cornwall Architectural Trust Summer Lecture: Patricia Brown
Falmouth University
May 2017
We once again hosted our Summer lecture in conjunction with Falmouth University and this year's Guest Speaker was Patricia Brown. After the lecture the drinks reception was held in the sub tropical gardens of the Architecture Studio offering attendees a chance to meet the students and view the end of year exhibition.

RTPI South West Annual Conference
Weymouth

RIBA Cornwall were delighted to be invited to the RTPI South West annual conference which took place in Weymouth this year. We were invited to talk about the relationship between the branch and Cornwall Council which is becoming respected throughout the county. Cian Spowart and Jane Hamlyn represented the branch along with David Edmondson from Cornwall Council. We gave a short presentation and then delegates were invited to take part in examples of the workshops initially set for Elected members and Case officers in Cornwall.

The Annual General Meeting for RIBA Cornwall and The Cornwall Architectural Trust. We were joined by representatives from Cornwall Council Planning Department who gave a presentation and later we had a tour of the recently completed Council offices .

CAT Lecture & Dinner 2017:
Eric Parry
National Maritime Museum, Falmouth

For the second year the Annual Cornwall Architectural Trust Lecture and Dinner was held in the fantastic National Maritime Museum in Falmouth. This year's guest speaker was award winning architect Eric Parry who talked through a selection of his key projects.
The event was also a chance to see an exhibition of entries to this year's Inette Austin Smith Work Experience Competition.
The event sold out again this year. Sponsored by Ibstock and Cornish Concrete Products and supported by RIBA SW.


Christmas Lunch & Branch Meeting
The Thomas Daniell, Truro

This year our Christmas Lunch and informal branch meeting was held at The Thomas Daniell pub in Truro. We enjoyed a great menu and some good conversations including ideas for branch activities in 2018.
