PAST EVENTS: 2014
Our exciting programme in 2014 comprised of a wide variety of events aimed at branch members, students and the general public.
Spirit of Place: Bude - Exhibition
The Castle, Bude
The Exhibition explores the local history of the town and how the genius loci is woven into the landscape. Bringing together photography and poetry to form the display, it also featured a 'Citizens' Wall' for residents to have their say regarding the future of the town. The event was the inspiration of RIBA Cornwall member Jonathan Ball MBE and was recognised nationally at the RIBA Local Members Forum at 66 Portland Place in London. We hope to bring the exhibition to another Cornish town in the future.
RIBA President Stephen Hodder Visits Cornwall
In sddition to visiting some of our RIBA Chartered Practices, the president visited the Spirit of Place exhibition and toured the Eden Project with a number of Cornwall Branch Members.
It was a great opportunity for our members to discuss strategy and the future of the RIBA and how this relates to Cornwall.
Cornish Architects and Planners spent the afternoon taking part in a Gig Rowing Challenge. After an intial briefing on technique and safety the Gigs participants were split into teams and rowed up the river through Fowey before racing back. A great afternoon followed by fabulous buffet at Gallants. Organised by Lipscomb Jone Architecture. The plan is for this to be repeated in 2015.
St Austell Printworks
The Annual General Meeting of the RIBA Cornwall Branch and the Cornwall Architectural Trust took place at the St Austell Printworks. With great informative presentations from Tim Kellett (Cornwall Development Company) and Jenny Milligan (Cornwall Council) on convergence and delivering the building followed by a tour with architects Alan Leather Associates.
Now in its third year, and the second time it has been held on Porthminster Beach in St Ives, the Architectural Sandcastle Competition was a great success. This year there were more than 40 teams who entered and approximately 200 people taking part on the beach. This year the event was part of the St Ives September Festival and organised with PBWC Ltd and RIBA South West.

Christmas Lunch & Branch Meeting
A great many ideas were discussed at the our Christmas Branch meeting over a couple of glasses of mulled wine followed by an excellent Christmas Lunch at Mannings Restaurant in Truro. We look forward to returning next year.
