THE INETTE AUSTIN–SMITH WORK EXPERIENCE COMPETITION
This was established by CFD Architects (Catchfrench Design) in 2011 and they continue to administer the competition. Now about to enter its eighth year, the competition has proved a great success with architectural practices across the county.
DOWNLOAD THE 2019 BRIEF AND ENTRY FORM
Each year students in Year 10 and Year 12 undertaking a week’s work experience in an architectural practice in the county are given the opportunity to enter the competition.
So far the briefs have included:
Olympic Information Kiosk
Crowlas Village Square
The entries are judged in September and prizes are awarded. The overall winner of each age category is also invited the Cornwall Architectural Trust Annual Lecture and Dinner.
THE TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP AWARD (UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH)
The Travelling Scholarship Awards are given to one degree student and one postgraduate student studying architecture at University of Plymouth. They enable the students to undertake a study trip to further their understanding and knowledge of architecture. Students then give presentations as part of the PADS autumn lecture series at the University of Plymouth.
The awards are given jointly with the Cornwall Architectural Trust, Plymouth Architectural Trust, Exeter Society of Architects and RIBA Plymouth Branch.
We attend a number of careers fairs to inform and educate students considering a career in architecture.
Previously we have had stands at:
· Launceston College
· Fowey River Academy
· The Skills Show Experience
· Cornwall Careers Show
Becoming an architect typically involves five years at university and completing a minimum of two year’s practical experience.
